The Languages of Hakur

In many of the kingdoms, children are often taught to speak not only their native tongue, but typically that of their neighbors, whether they are Halflings, Elves, and Dwarves.

Hakurian Trade Toungue - A common language known throughout the kingdoms. Mostly spoken in large cities or border towns.

Camenish - An old language with roots in the old Camen Empire. Mainly spoken in the Camen empire and the City-State League of Spartia.

Geltian - A strong guttural tongue spoken by the Geltlunders, and parts of Dracar.

Phrenc - An almost musical tongue spoken in Selense, very closely related to Elvish.

Rovani - The nomads tongue, parts of this language make up the Hakurian Trade tongue.

Ainglish - The tongue of the island nation Angland, not commonly spoken anywhere else, except for ports of sea trade.

Dearkay - An old tongue from the lost days of the empire that is still spoken in most of Dracar, and much of Eastern Hakur.

Hespon - An offshoot of Phrenc, this language is spoken primarily in Hesponia.

Sun Elvish / Common Elvish - The most commonly spoken elfin tongue. It is a language that has heavily influenced the speech of the Phrenc people.

High Elvish - The language of the Gray Elves, an uncommonly spoken elfin tongue by anyone that is not a High Elf.

High Dwarvish - The lost language of the Mountain Dwarves.

Low Dwarvish - The commonly spoken Dwarven tongue. Also spoken extensively throughout Hesponia that has also lended itself to the Hespon tongue.

Gobblspeck - The speach common to all of the goblinoid races. In many ways the languages sounds like a bastardization of the trade tongue, a person of intelligence that is versed in the trade tongue has a chance to discern some of what Goblins may say in their language.

Koboldish - The yip-yapping of the kobold's. A simple to follow once one understands the minor nuances of the yapping these dogmen make. There is no known written language among the dogmen, although there are symbols and glyphs they use for simple markings of territory and warnings.

Ancient Languages

There are many more ancient toungues than are currently listed below. The two most common to all lands and that are still taught to some degree are listed for generating characters. As time goes on and characters are exposed to additional ancient toungues, and are able to spend the time, then they can learn the other "lost" languages.

Old Thorsic - An ancient language dating back to the end of the 5th age of man, and being used through to the age of darkness. Recently began to fall out of use in the 7th age of man.

Old Kaimish - A truly ancient dialect of Camenish once spoken and written throughout much of Southeastern Hakur. Believed to have originated sometime before the Age of the Gods.
