These briefs provide a rough general overview of the various cultures that make up the kingdoms of man. Click on the linked titles below for additional information about each of the people of the realms.
The languages of the realms are as diverse as the people that speak them. Most languages, unless otherwise noted, have some written form.
Humans
The human species come in many shapes and sizes. They are divided among geographical regions and each region has it's own look, way of dress, and customs. The following groups of people are common in the Western Lands of Hakur, and by no means is this a complete listing of all the types of humans living in this world.
Camen, Gelts, Phrencs, Rovani, Anglanders, Dearkasions and Spartians are most common in this part of the world, although similiar in appearance they have vastly differing views and ways of life. Sometimes these ways compliment eachother and at other times, these differences have pulled man apart.
The people of the Republic known as the Holy Camen Empire. They are a people lead by an elected Caesar for life who adjucates the law and is head of the great army and navy that defends the people and the people of the Holy City of Camen from all threats.
Once hailing from the region of the City-State League of Spartia, these people still hold a strong mutual animosity that almost always borders on conflict with the League.
A passionate people hailing from the City-State League of Spartia who are as different from one another as there are city-states in their region. Many Spartians value their differences and freedoms with an almost paranoid fervor that still holds them at odds with their long ago cast out bretheren, the Came.
These barrelchested giants of men are found in the Northern Reaches of Hakur. They are considered to be rough around the edges, uncouth and rowdy at times, but that's only because the people saying so don't know how to let loose and enjoy themselves. They are a society that believes in strong family ties and in traveling with a Geltian, it is not uncommon to suddenly find oneself a member of a new lasting family.
A cosmopolitan people from a land with a fairly equal mix of humans and elves. The people are often gregarious with one another and rather aloof with outsiders, mostly because they do no wish to offend by imposing their ways upon others. They are a polite people who won't necesarily go out of their way to make that known. They live in the central kingdom of Selense and featured prominently in the battles against the Orcish Hoards over 300 years ago.
Vagabonds, naer do wells and thieves, that's the common misconception about these highly mobile people. In reality, they are skilled travelers, horsemen, entertainers, traders, tradesmen and at times excellent at settling disputes between people od other nations.
The Rovani can be found living and traveling in all lands.
Renowned for their great skills upon the sea, the people of Angland are proud of their skills, strongly in touch with their home and known across all of the ports in the Realms.
The proud people of a once great empire that is all but a shadow of its former self. Today, it is a nation of major and minor noble houses, vying for the eyes and ears of the Emperor. A court, where good deeds for the Empire can raiese in the ranks or be thwarted by the back room dealings and court intrigue of houses less interested in the Empire and more interested in the power they hold and they power they want to grasp. A common people that dutifully serve the Empire, while holding out hope that the Emperor may deem them fit to be elevated and making their family one of the many minor Noble houses of the Empire.
With a more martial outlook on life and the fact that most every citizen must serve in the army of one Noble house or another, it is no surprise that true wizards are in short supply. Those with a keen mind have often found themselves engineering the gaslights of the major cities, the cannons and rilfes of the army. There are those with an even more keen mind that find themselves entering the order of the Fighting Arcanists.
Hailing from the lands south of the Kingdom of Selense, the people known as Hesponians dwell. These people greatly value their family, both immediate and extended and have been known to treat close companions almost as family. Hesponians are very close to the Low Dwarves and both people live together in cities across the lands of Hesponia.
A people that are not quite human and not quite elf. They are mostly found in the kingdom of Selense, where there exists communities filled with half-elves, they have become like a race of man on their own. By Sun Elves, they are called Sylvan and by humans they are called Wood Elves. These people are commonly found in small to medium sized towns and villages often at the edges of or just inside the forests of the realms.
The Elven race is one of the oldest races to exist second to man, and survive in three known sub-races that are unique in their own way. While it is typical that the elven people keep to themselves, notably the Sun (or Common) Elf have meshed quite well with their neighbors, even living in a mixed human/elven kingdom. Their cousins, the Grey Elf are more aloof, and would rather live atop their mountain cities far from the affairs of man, while the ever elusive Snow Elf tread the icy lands farther north than even humans care to live and if they weren't known to exist, might as well not exist.
A commonly seen elf in the lands of men, the Sun Elf is home where he or she may find themself while journeying or settling for a few hundred or so years. While primarily found in the Kingdom of Selense, it is not a surprise to find Sun Elves wherever the sun may shine.
Thes elves are an offshoot of the Sun Elves, they live in the colder lands between Geltlund and the icy lands that are home to the High Elves. Similar to their cousins, the Sun Elves, this race of man is known to travel over much of the world, even though they are most at home in cooler to icy climes.
Living longer then all other Elven people and living far longer then any single man, a few Grey Elves remember the days when the gods walked the land and the terrible state the gods left all kingdoms in that time.
The kingdoms of man are home to two similar, yet distinct types of dwarves, the Hill Dwarves, which are often found living amongst man throughout the realms and the Mountain Dwarves that live deep within the most inhospitable of mountains throughout the lands. In the last 300 years, the only type of Dwarves seen in the land of men are the Hill Dwarves, who are now commonly seen as the only Dwarves in the land. The Mountain Dwarves sealed themselves deep into their mountain homes after the end of the last great war with the Dark Armies of the Orcs.
Physically, both types of dwarves are nearly identicle, with the major differences being the types of clothing they wear and their personalilties. The common Hill Dwarf can be seen carousing about and enjoying the life, getting into minor trouble and being rather sociable and often quite personable. The Mountain Dwarves on the other hand, were known as a very reserved, somewhat paranoid, sour, gruff bunch who felt most happy when presented with lengthy backbreaking tasks, usually deep in their mines or foundries and smithies.
Dwarves stand about three quarters the height of an average human and are roughly twice as thick.
